Ilford Delta 3200 – Photographing a gig on film

Finally back on the horse, the camera horse so to speak after so long. In the past I had being headbanging my head off a wall with this film – Ilford Delta 3200. However this time around, I feel that the headbanging is now down on the film!  At the event in Explosiv, Graz a place where kind folks alike come together to play music for fun and this was “All Stars”. A musical foray of epic portions, no less then 30 cover songs to be played in 3 sets. My camera was the legend OM-1, The Olympus OM-1 with a solid piece of glass the 55mm f/1.2. The night was dark, only the lights spread along with the fog machine and the musician movements  made for quite some difficult captures. Most frames at 1.2 to get as much light possible in the camera onto the film.

Overall the results shined through and I love the grain results which I expected when shooting with Ilford Delta 3200. The film was developed in Rodinal 1:50 for 20 minutes. I used my trusty invention the “Spinmatic” to self develop the film. What I say and tell is Delta 3200 is the prefect fit for heavy metal and rock gigs, if you haven’t used it already – I’d recommended it!

The first roll first I had not roll into the take up reel quite right. I’m bit pissed over that but once I realised I loaded again and hopefully made up for it. Film can be a bastard sometimes but usually it’s down to the user – me. Not taking your time and getting too excited and impatience is where film will get the better of you. Film is your friend when you give it what it needs, light and little more light in this situation would have been very nice. Nonetheless the sensitive Delta didn’t fail in my hour of darkness!  I’m definitely a fan of this film now.
