Welcome to the Halloween Special. A short video and post one this time around. I’m going to develop film with beer with some frightening results. Well not really I just need to say that because it’s the fine old Irish tradition of Halloween.
Halloween originated in Ireland as the Celtic festival of Samhain around a thousand years ago, which is why so many of Halloween traditions – regardless of where you are in the world – are Irish!
The Celts believed that on the eve of Halloween dead spirits would visit the mortal world. We’d lit bonfires to keep evil spirits away and dressed in disguises!
Here’s a very scary thought, developing film with beer. A sacrilegious use for some of you. However this beer has expired and need to put to good use! So don’t be scarred. This known process is known as Beerenol or Beernol. It’s ecological and safe to use, of course protect your hands with using the fixer. You can also fix with salt water however proper fixer will ensure you film stays the same for many years.
If you are not a beer drinker you can develop with coffee too. Check out my video on that.

- 12g of Vitamin C
- 50g of Washing Soda
- 500ml of Beer
